Prayer for Adaptation

Our Father,

Creator of all races and colors of man, help me to see within them, beyond all apparent differences, what I see in myself: The same basic feelings and desires, the same dreams and aspirations, the same love for home and family, the same inexpressible yearning for a deeper understanding of self, and a knowledge of God and the universe.

Help me to understand that, no matter how high or low on the scale of development their race or color may be – since they are children of the same Creator.

Help me then, to feel the harm I do to myself when I allow prejudices – against any race, color, or person – to continue to exist in my mind and heart.

Help me to forgive my brothers when they err, just as I would wish them to forgive me for my shortcomings.

Help me to decide, as I discover these shortcomings, that I will do my best to change them – as a first step to bringing about a similar change in others.

For this purpose, I pray that I may be given the strength, patience, understanding, and will, that will help me to move forward, every day, in the service of my fellow human beings, so that I too may contribute my share to the creation of a better, happier life for myself and my loved ones.
